Nothing, and no one, was going to stop Candace Rohrick from celebrating her birthday directly underneath the eclipse’s path
As many of you already know, I am not recommending our solar eclipse glasses for viewing the eclipse on August 21, 2017 and will no longer be giving them out. We have reason to suspect that the glasses may be knock-offs of authentic American Paper Optics glasses. Although they passed a recent inspection by UBC astrophysicist, Jaymie Mathews, there is still an element of doubt in my mind and I cannot, in good conscience, give these out to my community.
It was supposed to be a nice thing, to celebrate the solar eclipse and her birthday.
Vancouver realtor Candace Rohrick was giving away more than 1,200 free solar eclipse glasses — a hot commodity needed to safely view the Aug. 21 eclipse.
But after she started handing them out — and put about 150 packets of them in the mail Sunday night — she got a tip Monday that what she thought were ISO-certified glasses might be fakes.
“I’m totally heartbroken by this,” Rohrick told CBC News.
What started as a well-intentioned way to celebrate her birthday has turned into a distressing and exhausting nightmare for Candace Rohrick.
The Vancouver realtor has had to recall the solar glasses that she was giving away for free. She can no longer trust that the glasses meet safety standards and doesn’t want to take any risks.
If you’ve decided to buy a home, it’s important you understand all the costs involved in addition to the price you’re paying for the property.
Here’s an overview.
